Information Collection and Use
Information We Collect
BrainSync is designed to respect your privacy and provide a peaceful meditation experience. We collect minimal information necessary for the app to function properly:
- Device Information: We may collect information about your device, including device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
- Session History: Your meditation session history, mood ratings, and custom presets are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data.
- Achievement Data: Your meditation streaks and achievements are stored locally on your device.
Android: We collect anonymous usage statistics (which presets are used, session durations, crash reports) via Firebase Analytics to improve the app. Your personal meditation data always stays on your device.
iOS: We do not collect analytics data. Your meditation data stays completely private on your device.
Data Storage
All personal data created within the app (meditation history, custom presets, mood ratings, achievements, settings) is stored locally on your device. We do not collect, access, or transmit this data to our servers.
- iOS: Uses Core Data and UserDefaults for local storage
- Android: Uses Room Database and DataStore for local storage
Third-Party Services
BrainSync uses different third-party services on each platform:
Both Platforms: Google AdMob
We use Google AdMob to display banner advertisements that help us keep the app free. AdMob may collect and use data for ad personalization. By default, we show non-personalized ads to respect your privacy.

Android Only: Firebase Services
The Android version uses Google Firebase services to improve user experience:
Google Analytics for Firebase
We use Google Analytics to understand app usage patterns and improve user experience. This service collects anonymous usage data such as:
- Number of sessions started
- Most popular meditation presets
- App engagement metrics
- Anonymous crash reports

Firebase Crashlytics
We use Firebase Crashlytics to track app crashes and errors to improve app stability. This collects:
- Device state information (memory, storage, battery level)
- Unique device identifiers
- Crash traces and stack traces
- App version information
This data helps us fix bugs and improve the meditation experience.
Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)
We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send optional meditation reminders and notifications. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings. FCM may collect:
- Device tokens for notification delivery
- Notification interaction data
Firebase Performance Monitoring
We use Firebase Performance Monitoring to measure app startup time, audio loading performance, and screen rendering metrics to ensure smooth meditation sessions.
iOS Note: The iOS version does not use Firebase services. It's completely private with no analytics or crash reporting.
Permissions
BrainSync requests the following permissions based on platform:
iOS Permissions
- Background Audio: Required for the app to continue playing sounds when the screen is locked or you switch to other apps
- Audio Session: Used to manage audio playback and respond to interruptions (calls, alarms)
Android Permissions
- Internet Access: For displaying ads and sending anonymous analytics
- Network State: To check connectivity for ad loading
- Wake Lock: To keep meditation sessions running when screen is off
- Foreground Service: To play binaural beats audio in the background during meditation
- Notification: To send optional meditation reminders (optional, you can disable)
- Vibration: For haptic feedback when interacting with buttons
All permissions are used solely for app functionality and never to collect personal information.
Audio Generation
BrainSync generates binaural beats and ambient sounds locally on your device using procedural audio synthesis. No audio files are recorded, uploaded, or shared. All audio processing happens on your device.
- iOS: Uses AVAudioEngine framework
- Android: Uses AudioTrack and native audio synthesis
Data Security
We prioritize the security of your meditation data:
- All personal data remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers
- We use industry-standard security measures for any anonymous analytics transmission (Android only)
- We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties
- Ad networks operate under their own privacy policies and GDPR compliance
Children's Privacy
BrainSync is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
- The app shows non-personalized ads only
- Contains no in-app purchases (iOS has optional premium subscription)
- Contains no social features
- Contains no chat or messaging features
GDPR Compliance (European Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data protection rights:
- Right to Access: You can access your data stored locally on your device
- Right to Erasure: You can delete all app data by clearing app data or uninstalling the app
- Right to Object: You can opt-out of personalized advertising in your device settings
- Right to Data Portability: You can export your session history using the app's export feature
We show non-personalized ads by default to comply with GDPR. Ad personalization requires explicit user consent.
CCPA Compliance (California Users)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

- Request deletion of personal information
- Opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
Opt-Out Options
You can control your privacy settings:
- Personalized Ads: Adjust your device's ad preferences or use "Limit Ad Tracking" (iOS) / "Opt out of Ads Personalization" (Android)
- Analytics (Android): Disable analytics collection through your device settings
- Notifications: Disable meditation reminders in the app settings or device notification settings
- All Data: Clear all local data by uninstalling the app
Data Retention
- Local Data (Both): Your meditation history and settings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app
- Analytics Data (Android): Anonymous analytics data is retained by Firebase for up to 14 months
- Crash Reports (Android): Crash data is retained for up to 90 days to help us fix bugs
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access all meditation data stored locally on your device
- Export your session history (CSV format available in app)
- Delete specific meditation sessions
- Delete all app data by clearing app storage or uninstalling the application
- Opt-out of personalized advertising
- Disable analytics collection (Android) through your device settings
- Request information about data collected by contacting us
International Data Transfers
Your personal data remains on your device. Anonymous analytics data (Android only) may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where Firebase and Google services operate. These transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by:
- Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
- Updating the "Effective date" at the top
- Showing an in-app notification (for significant changes)
